Membership Requirements

Do you have a burning passion for the arts, and want to learn the art of backstage work?

Are you looking for a creative outlet to learn new skills and meet cool people?

No matter the level of expertise, you're at the right place! Any NUS student, from any faculty, any degree programme, can join us!

For both new and incoming members, we uphold conditions for membership renewal.

Productions - Members must participate in at least two productions per academic year, in a non-trivial role.

Training - NEW members must attend 80% of training workshops for their selected specialisation (Stage Management, Lighting, Sound).

Bonding - Members must attend at least two bonding sessions to get to know other members in the CCA. It is highly recommended that members attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM), held near the end of the AY to celebrate the group's achievements.

Training

At NUS, we are privileged to have industry professionals tutor us in the amazing art of backstage work. New members are expected to undergo training in one of the following strands: Sound, Lighting, and Stage Management. Training courses are devised with thorough curricula that ensure anyone who completes the course is ready to embark on production roles on campus. The training programmes are designed for ab-initio learners, which means anyone from beginners to experienced students can learn!

For renewal of membership, new members are expected to attend at least 80% of their training track.

Sound

Tutor: Isaac Ong (https://www.linkedin.com/in/isaac--ong)

He majored in Film and Television Production in Brisbane, Australia, building strong technical expertise in film and video production. Combining these skills with a conscientious work ethic, he has consistently contributed to the success of his projects.

His professional strengths were developed through experience in both media and theatre industries. His portfolio demonstrates skills in time management, team coordination, creative problem-solving within constraints, and multitasking in challenging environments. His work includes feature films, broadcast documentaries on Channel NewsAsia, trailers, and promotional videos for local media networks.

Before transitioning into teaching, he worked professionally in media and theatre, gaining valuable industry insights that now shape his practical, work-focused approach to education.

His portfolio also includes production management for local projects where meeting timelines and maintaining client relationships were key to success. His attention to deadlines ensured productions were completed on schedule. While working full-time as an academic, he continues to take on consultancy projects, including the National Arts Festival at the National University of Singapore. He holds certifications in basic counseling skills and ACTA, supporting his work with both students and adult learners.

With a strong eye for detail, he has successfully delivered projects from hands-on installations to back-end production coordination and management, all without major setbacks.

In this immersive training program, you'll explore the fundamental principles and advanced techniques of sound engineering and design, tailored specifically for the dynamic environments of theatre and live music. From understanding acoustics and mixing to mastering soundscapes and effects, our hands-on approach will equip you with the skills needed to create compelling audio experiences that enhance storytelling and engage audiences. Join us as we dive into the art and science of sound, and take your production skills to the next level!

Stage Management
